Local Services, National Recognition
Larkin Street’s work has received national recognition through the receipt of
several prestigious awards. In 2004, Larkin Street was the recipient of
the National Network for Youth’s “Agency of the Year” Award, in recognition
of
“the vital role that youth agencies play in the healthy development of youth,
families and communities.” In March 2003, our HIRE UP employment and
education initiative was one of three winners nationwide in the J.P. Morgan
Chase Foundation’s “Awards for Excellence in Workforce Development”
competition. HIRE UP was also recognized in national competition as a
winner of the PEPNet 2002 Award, sponsored by the National Youth
Employment Coalition, for promising practices in youth workforce
development. In 2002, Larkin Street’s Assisted Care program for youth
living with AIDS was honored with two national awards, the Johnson & Johnson
Community Healthcare Crystal Award for excellence in non-traditional healthcare
settings, and the MetLife “Excellence in Affordable
Housing Award.” Also in 2002, the agency as a whole was the recipient of
the Association for Corporate Growth’s “Emerging Organization of the
Year” award.
