Mark Buell is a native San Franciscan, and has spent 35 years in both public and private real estate development. Mark served as San Francisco’s first Director of Economic Development under Joseph Alioto and later served as the first Director of the Emeryville Redevelopment Agency from 1977 to 1985. He was a founding member and first President of CALED, the California Association for Local Economic Development and served on the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission under Dianne Feinstein. Buell is Chair of the America’s Cup Organizing Committee.
Jimmy Spithill is Helmsman and Skipper at ORACLE Team USA. Spithill has been a force in competitive sailing for almost two decades. An early America’s Cup aficionado dating back to the Australia II’s win in 1983, Spithill was the youngest skipper to take the helm on the oldest boat with the smallest budget in the 1995 America’s Cup in San Diego and he is one of the few skippers to win a Grade 1 match race regatta without losing a single race. When he won the 33rd America’s Cup on USA 17 as skipper of ORACLE Racing at the age of 30, Spithill became the youngest skipper to ever win the revered America’s Cup trophy.
