Larkin Street Partners with Doctors of the World
As part of an ongoing partnership with Doctors of the World Eliza Gibson, Program Consultant, and Dina Wilderson, Chief of Research and Evaluation traveled to St Petersburg, Russia in October 2007 to provide a week-long training on developing a management team. The training focused on issues such as leadership development, supervision techniques, program evaluation, staff development, and burnout prevention.
Doctors of the World is an international organization committed to health and human rights for all people around the globe. Since 1994 DOW has been addressing the crisis of street children and youth in Russia. The agency operates two drop in centers, an overnight shelter, a foster family program, a transitional living program, and a program to prevent child abandonment with HIV+ mothers in the St. Petersburg area. In addition it operates two programs in the Ukraine.
This current training builds on the previous work that Larkin Street has completed with Doctors of the World. In January 2007 representatives from St Petersburg came to San Francisco to learn more about Larkin Street’s model of care for runaway and homeless youth. Staff had the opportunity to visit various program sites and dialogue with program managers and directors. The agency has also provided trainings in Russia on HIV prevention, effective case management, and residential program services.
