Wire Up
Larkin Street Youth Services’ comprehensive employment training program,
HIRE UP, offers a variety of opportunities for youth to become self-sufficient. Wire
Up prepares young people for careers by imparting the technological skills
that are always in demand Bay Area employers.
Wire Up is an intensive 15 hour computer and technology skills course offered
in LSYS’s state-of-the-art on-site computer lab. The curriculum,
which includes vocational training in basic computer applications and Web
site design, is linked specifically to the skills that businesses in the
technology sector say they need the most. Wire Up classes run in conjunction
with our Job Readiness Class to offer an advanced skill set of employment
readiness and technology.
When youth graduate from Wire Up, they are well-prepared to formulate their
resumes, apply for work, and interview for jobs in the technology sector. They
can move forward with their careers secure in the knowledge that they have
the skills necessary to help them leave street life behind forever.
- Close to 50 young people gained marketable computer and technology
skills through Wire Up classes last year.
